A Word From Our Exalted Ruler Mike Michaud

Please allow me a to introduce myself, my name is Mike Michaud and I am honored to serve as your Exalted Ruler for 2017/2018.

I am married to the most wonderful and dedicated lady, in the world, her name is Lina Michaud. Together we have 4 children, Marcy, Anthony, Asia and Emily and two grandsons, with a 3rd on his way! We are blessed beyond words and so very proud of our children and their accomplishments. We, also, have our pride and joy, “Bear,” he’s a 7 years old, miniature poodle.

Both sets of our parents reside in the Augusta area and my father, Raymond, is a 60 year, member of the Elks and Lina’s mother, Theresa, has been active at our Lodge for several years, serving on the Scholarship and Veteran’s Committees. My mother, Marilyn, has been a great support and influence in my life.

Enough about who I am, now let me explain my reason for deciding to run for Exalted Ruler of the Augusta Elks Lodge. It is our goal for this coming “Elk” year to introduce new ideas and events that will encourage our membership to be involved. We will certainly, be promoting “Family” and having events that will include “whole” families, from grandchildren to great grandparents. We want to offer something for everyone to partake in and a “home away from home” atmosphere.

Our Lodge will be putting on events throughout the year to not only promote Elkdom but to promote the great community we live in. I suggest that you pay close attention to our newsletter to see all the exciting upcoming events, for if you are not at the Lodge, you will certainly be missing out, on some great times! Upcoming, in the next few months we have our monthly Birthday Bash’s, Paint Nights, “TGIF” Themed Evening in the Sports Lounge, Mardi Gras Party, Mother’s Day Luncheon, Scholarship Awards Banquet, Elk- Fest 2017 Fundraiser Super Drawing Challenge and Father’s Day Breakfast at this event we will hold our 1st Annual Father of the Year Award. You won’t want to miss this special ceremony! With great honor and pride, we will be hosting, this year’s Maine State Elks Association’s Annual Convention the week-end of May 5th – 7th, 2017. You’ll want to keep that week-end open and come out to meet your fellow Elk brothers and sisters from all over the State and enjoy the fellowship that Elkdom offers to all of us.

Also, on August 11th & 12th, 2017 we will be bringing back our biennial Elk Music Festival, to be held on our softball field. A week-end of great food, music and fun, all while raising lots of monies for two benefactors, that are near and dear to the great heart of Elkdom, the Maine Children’s Cancer Program and K-9’s of the Front Line, a Veteran’s Project. Let’s join forces and promote Elkdom! How can each and every one of us do our part? Let’s work, together, to encourage former members to re-discover Elkdom and increase our membership by reaching out and introducing Elkdom to our family, friends and community.  Extend them an invite to join you for one of the many upcoming events and let them experience, firsthand, Elkdom and our Lodge.

Many thanks to the 2016/2017 Suite of Officers from the Waterville Lodge #905 for installing our new Suite of Officers for 2017/2018, on March 18th, 2017. It was a wonderful and memorable night!

Kudos to George and Rachel Jones for hosting our Annual Cribbage Tournament. It was great seeing so many here for a mid-week break from things to socialize and enjoy each other’s company.

The Saint Patrick’s Day Party was a blast from the past, with School Street Band providing entertainment for all the “Wanna Be” Irish (for the night) party-goers! Thank you for all of you that came out to support the event.

Lastly, I want to thank Lori Howlett, PER and her Suite of Officers for 2016/2017, for all, of the hard work and dedication that went into making this past year, the success it was! I look forward to working with the Officers that will be staying on for the current year and the new Officers that have come on board to help lead our Lodge in 2017/2018. Our Motto for this year will be “Augusta Elks, its where the fun begins”
